Ross Lake Rally

50K and 25K, Friday-Saturday, 8-9 of June 2017

Description

Situated in the North Cascades National Park, the Ross Lake Rally offers a pair of runs that blend early season mountain access, moderate elevation, and spectacular trails along the shores of Ross Lake. After an initial evening dinner, orientation, and overnight at the Colonial Creek Campground runners are shuttled via water taxi to two respective starts/trails and subsequently wander their way lakeside back to a well stocked basecamp finish.

50K: From Colonial Creek Runners are transported to the Happy Panther trailhead, which quickly descends to the shores of Ross Lake. A waiting boat shuttles folks to the northern end of the lake and Hozomeen Camp. A few hundred yards of gravel road quickly brings folks to the Willow Creek Trail, the beginning of the run.  After the first 3 miles of trail, a 1 mile spur leads to the, not to be missed, lakeside views of Hozomeen Peak. The next 11 miles of rolling single track mostly in the Lightning Creek drainage brings Ross Lake back into view and the option for a    mid-run swim.  From here the East Bank Trail follows the shore line for another 16 miles dipping in and out creek drainages, crossing suspension bridges, and showing off the colors of spring wildflowers. The trail brings runners back to Highway 20, where another shuttle brings them back into Colonial Creek. Click here to view an Alltrails course map and elevation profile.

25K: Like the 50K runners are transported to the Happy Panther trailhead, which quickly descends to the shores of Ross Lake. Their boat shuttle terminates at Devils Junction where they pick up the East Bank trail for 15 miles moderate lakeside trail and spectacular mountain views. Once reaching Highway 20, an Aspire shuttle brings folks back into Colonial Creek. Click here to view an Alltrails course map and elevation profile.
